![]() ![]() The manual is nice and concise, however it's not a tutorial and doesn't explain anything: it only tells you what does what and never tells you how to use what. However I have a scientific background, I did study some electronics on my own, and I did quite a bit of research before buying this unit because I wanted to be sure I had a good way to use my looper with it, all of this together may have helped to figure things down. It is the first time I ever own or use a mixer, and I didn't have much problems figuring things out. The usb out works in Linux, I record in Ardour (in case it helps someone, since some usb codecs are proprietary and don't work properly with Jack). Panning with synth voices for even more trippy loops.Īll the connectivity: Ctrl Room, main mix, phones, RCA out, usb for recording.etc.Ĭompressor for my acoustic guitar channel when I use it, EQ for everything to try and keep the mix clean. I also didn't expect it, but you have some degree of control over each effect by being able to tune one or two parameters per effect. I mostly used reverb so far, and it's great. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the built-in FX unit. Double AUX send: one AUX send and one FX send, both with returns, offer quite a bit of wiring options. Compressors for the mono channels do an okayish job if you don't need real control over it. The sound quality is good enough for recording, I'll maybe edit this feedback once it will be tried in a live setting. Allows us to play live with several channels and I can just pick one or two to record and loop while the others are left unchanged. The alt bus is the feature I was looking for the most, to be able to allways choose whether to send a channel to record with the looper. I also play sometimes with a friend who has a modular synth and me with semimodular + looper. ![]() As a project, I play with an acoustic guitar, a small semimodular synth, and a loop pedal. ![]()

![]() ![]() The Core i5-11600K and Ryzen 5 5600X are still ahead overall, but not by much. I saw similar results when I bumped up my RAM speed to 4000MHz by enabling its XMP profile in my motherboard's BIOS settings, too. AMD's Ryzen 5 5600X still has the edge in a lot of games in my testing suite, but it is, of course, that much more expensive. I'm still in the middle of re-testing all my CPUs with Nvidia's more powerful RTX 3080 at the moment, but since all RTX 30 cards are still widely unavailable at this point, I felt my stalwart RTX 2080 Ti would give a more accurate picture of what's currently possible with this particular processor for the purposes of this review.Īs you can see from the graphs below, its 1080p speeds are right up there with the Core i5-11600K in most cases, and it's mostly on par with Intel's previous gen Core i5-10600K as well. Indeed, when it comes to gaming speeds, the Core i5-11400F was nigh-on indistinguishable from its 11600K sibling in my CPU gaming benchmarks when paired with my RTX 2080 Ti, both at my RAM's base speed of 2133MHz and my Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro's top XMP speed of 4000MHz. PSU: CoolerMaster MasterWatt 750 TUF Gaming Edition RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB, 2133MHz / 4000MHz ![]() Motherboard: Asus ROG Maximus XIII Hero (Z590) Of course, the lack of that all-important K moniker on the end of the 11400F's name means you won't be able to overclock the CPU itself to get even nippier gaming speeds, but if all you want is a fast and capable gaming CPU you can just stick straight in your PC and not have to worry about endlessly tweaking it to get the best from it, the 11400F is well worth considering. Plus, thanks to Intel's more extensive support for memory overclocking this time round, you can still take advantage of your RAM's XMP profiles on B560 and H570 boards, allowing you to squeeze even more performance out of your system. ![]() For budget-oriented builders, the best match for this CPU would probably be either the B560 or H570 chipset - especially if you want to take advantage of this CPU's all-important PCIe 4.0 support for SSDs and the like. In all likelihood, you will still need to buy a new motherboard before you can start using the Core i5-11400F, as its LGA 1200 socket means it's only compatible with Intel's 400 and 500 series of motherboard chipsets. It also comes with a cooler in the box, helping you to keep costs down even further. Not only is it quite a bit cheaper than the i5-11600K and AMD's 5600X (both of which will currently set you back at least £250 / $300 at the moment), but it's also a lot more power efficient than its i5-11600K sibling, with a TDP of just 65W versus the 11600K's 125W TDP. ![]() Its base clock speed is a bit more pedestrian, starting a modest 2.6GHz versus the respective 3.9GHz and 3.7GHz speeds of its aforementioned stablemates, but the 11400F still comes with some important benefits. That's just 500MHz shy of the 11600K, and 200MHz shy of its nearest AMD rival, the Ryzen 5 5600X. While not quite as powerful as Intel's top 11th Gen Core i5 - the Core i5-11600K - the 11400F still gets you 6 cores and 12 threads, and a top clock speed of 4.4GHz. And for lack of any other competition right now, this £150 / $230 CPU is probably the closest thing you'll get to a great budget gaming CPU in 2021. Otherwise, they're exactly the same chip. As such, you'll need to pair it with a graphics card if you want anything to appear on your monitor when you come to turn it on. The Core i5-11400F is fundamentally identical to the 11400 - it's just that the F model doesn't have any integrated graphics built-in. Indeed, AMD still haven't released a Ryzen 5000 successor for it, and even Intel's 11th Gen Rocket Lake earlier in the year didn't yield any promising Core i3 candidates, either, with the chip maker stopping firm at the Core i5-11400 and i5-11400F, the latter of which is on test today. AMD's Ryzen 3 3300X filled that hole admirably when it first launched back in May last year, but the sheer popularity of that £115 / $120 CPU has meant that it's been out of stock almost ever since. It's been a long while since there's been a truly great budget gaming CPU that's actually been available to buy. ![]() ![]() ![]() (When you spend an average cost/waste of $5 everytime you buy a prepaid card, or $35/6mo for a PO Box (or $100 for the year as some PO’s have a minimum, which I just paid) then $30something for a comprehensive list of “tricks” is nothing. Anyone know if there's a way to convert that second stave to be a drumset stave or perhaps copy notes over to a drumset stave? ![]() Also, looking at the Mixer (Display -> Mixer or keyboard shortcut F10), that second stave was associated with Piano 1. I was able to add a 5-line drumset stave by going to Create -> Instruments (keyboard shortcut "I") and chosing Unpitched Percussion -> Drumset 5 lines -> Add. The percussion one did not appear to be a standard 5-line drumset, as the notes (closed hi-hats, bass drum, and snare) were all way down below the lowest line (6 or more lines down). It had a stave for bass guitar and another one for percussion (or at least, it had a neutral clef). I made a copy of the first exercise and opened it up in MuseScore. In MuseScore 2.0, it looks like you can set tempo during New Score creation (same dialog where you select Key Signature): The MIDI file should open up in Drum Tutor with the default tempo that you assigned, yet still be adjustable within the Play Panel tab. Don't actually delete the tempo text associated to that first note/rest. To delete tempo text, single-click to highlight and press Delete on your keyboard. This step is optional and really only needs to be done if the tempo text is overlapping something else visually.ħ. While dragging, a dashed line between the tempo text and the note or rest that it is associated to will be visible. To move tempo text, simply click and drag it. To change the tempo text displayed, double click the tempo text and edit to your liking. Click the up/down arrows, use the up/down arrow keys on your keyboard, type in a value, or use the scroll wheel on your mouse (cursor must be over the value box for this last method to work). To change the tempo value, right click the tempo text and chose Tempo Properties. (Don't worry if you can't find the exact tempo you want or the name means nothing to you - you can change both of those things later.) I can't take credit for discovering or solving this issue, as it was covered in a previous thread (which was actually how I found MuseScore to begin with). Preserving Tempo Adjustability of User-Generated MIDI Files In Drum Tutor One of the nicest features of the Roland software (in my opinion) is the ability to open MIDI files other than the ones included and get the same feedback functionality from the software with those files. There is also "game" mode with falling colored blocks (like in "Guitar Hero" or "Rock Band"), but if you're using MuseScore, then you're probably playing in notation mode. Correctly played notes get a blue circle around them, early/late/extra/incorrect notes get a red "X", and missed notes remain unmarked. More specifically, it is comparing the drummer's pad triggering to a MIDI file that the software is playing. I thought it would be beneficial to create a single thread where we can document tips, tricks, issues, and experiences related to using these two pieces of software together.įor those of you not familiar with Drum Tutor, it is a piece of software from Roland that provides feedback to the drummer to make sure one is playing the right note(s) at the right time.
